Beaumaris
Before launching your craft it is vitally important for your own personal safety and the safety of others that you take the time to read carefully the Rules & Regulations as set out by Gwynedd Council. Please adhere to these rules and regulations at all time.
Beaumaris is located in the South Eastern area of Anglesey, between the villages of Menai Bridge and Penmon. It is home to the imposing Beamaris Castle, Museum of Childhood, various eateries, public houses and small shops.
Launching your ski from here offers access to The Menai Straits, the mainland coastlines of Bangor and beyond, Puffin Island & of course, the varied ancient coastline of Anglesey.
The slipway here (pic. 1) is of wide, solid concrete construction, and leads to a mixed sand/ shingle beach surface. Launching is possible here from the slipway, or the beach, although you must assess the state of the beach surface if you are intending driving your car onto it for launch or recovery.
Our advice here is to invest in a purpose built webbing strap (5-15 metre ones widely available on ebay), so that you can leave your car on the slipway, and use the strap to get the ski to water, and recover the trailer.
When using this location PLEASE do not block the lifeboat shed with your towcar or trailer. You must also bear in mind that the lifeboat may need to launch AT ANY TIME, so you may need to delay your launch, or recovery if the slipway is needed.
There is very limited parking at the slipway (Please remember not to block access to the Lifeboat, or the water), but there is a large public car- park (charges apply) to the right as you exit The Lifeboat Station access road. Beaumaris streets are very narrow, so on-street parking is not advisable.
Directions
(from A55/Britania Bridge)
Cross the bridge onto Anglesey, then take the 1st exit off the A55 (J8A). Turn right onto the A545 and continue until you enter Beaumaris (approx 5 miles from the bridge). Continue along Beaumaris main street until you see Alma Street on your right (Opposite The Liverpool Arms Public House). Turn right into Alma Street, then follow the sign posts to the RNLI station & slipway.
Useful Information
Petrol & diesel available from Texaco filling station in Beaumaris, which also sells snacks. There is also a Shell filling station at Menai Bridge.
The nearby ABC Powermarine boat yard at Gallows Point (just to the south of Beaumaris) offers workshops, chandlery, some watersport clothing and accessories. There is a slipway at Gallows Point, but launching of PWC’s is no longer permitted here.
